Frequently Asked Questions

Is HumanType safe to use?

Yes. HumanType runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server. No data is collected, no analytics are used, and no third-party scripts track your activity. The entire processing happens locally on your device.

Will this completely bypass AI detectors?

Typographic normalization is one piece of the puzzle. AI detectors use multiple signals — perplexity, burstiness, semantic patterns, and typographic fingerprints. Removing typographic tells significantly reduces detection probability, but for maximum effectiveness, combine HumanType with other humanization techniques like varying sentence length and adding personal voice.

Why do AI models use em dashes and curly quotes?

AI language models are trained on professionally edited text where typographic symbols are standard. Books, articles, and academic papers use em dashes, curly quotes, and Unicode ellipses because they are formatted with professional typesetting tools. The AI simply reproduces these patterns without understanding they are unusual in casual human typing.

Does replacing symbols affect the meaning of my text?

No. The replacements are designed to preserve meaning. An en dash (–) looks almost identical to an em dash (—). Three dots (...) read exactly the same as the ellipsis glyph (…). The content and meaning of your text remain unchanged — only the underlying character codes differ.

Can I choose which symbols to replace?

Yes. HumanType gives you full control. You can enable or disable individual rules, or toggle entire categories on and off. The live counter shows how many symbols of each type are present in your text before you apply replacements.

Is HumanType free?

Yes, completely free. There are no premium features, no subscriptions, and no usage limits. The tool is open-source and will remain free forever.

Do I need to install anything?

No. HumanType is a web-based tool. Just open the website, paste your text, and click Replace. No downloads, no browser extensions, no sign-ups.
